The modern world is witnessing a profound transformation in its educational practices driven by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, which have become one of the most significant engines of development in the field of education. Education no longer relies solely on traditional methods of knowledge transmission; rather, it has evolved to include the use of intelligent systems capable of analyzing learners’ needs and personalizing educational content according to their abilities and learning behaviors.
This study aims to analyze the role of artificial intelligence in developing the educational process by exploring its key dimensions and major applications in higher education environments, with a particular focus on the reality of Libyan universities and the challenges they face in adopting these technologies. The study employed the descriptive-analytical method, through a review of literature and recent studies addressing the relationship between AI and educational quality, in addition to analyzing the current state of smart technology adoption in Arab and Libyan education. The results revealed that employing artificial intelligence effectively contributes to improving the quality of education and the efficiency of academic performance by developing teaching and assessment methods, enhancing interactive learning, and supporting data-driven academic decision-making. However, the study also identified real challenges that hinder the full utilization of these technologies in Libyan universities, including weak technological infrastructure, limited digital awareness, and the absence of national strategies for smart transformation in education.
The study concludes by emphasizing the need to adopt a comprehensive vision for integrating artificial intelligence into the educational process through the preparation of academic staff, curriculum development, and the provision of a supportive digital environment. This would ensure higher quality and more innovative university education capable of keeping pace with the requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
