Digital Divide, Technological SkillsAbstract
The study aimed to evaluate disparities in the use of digital technologies, the level of related skills, and the level of access among both academic staff and students, in order to identify the digital divide between them. The study adopted an analytical methodology based directly on a range of references and previous studies published in academic journals, in addition to secondary data obtained from reports, publications, and official statistics issued by several reliable international organisations to establish the theoretical framework of the study. A questionnaire was used as the primary tool for collecting primary data to conduct the empirical investigation. The findings revealed very minor differences between academic staff and students across all three indicators, with both groups facing similar challenges and opportunities. In addition, a slight individual digital access gap was identified, while a significant institutional gap emerged due to the generally limited capabilities of the university. The digital usage gap reflects a qualitative divide represented by differences in the nature of use, resulting from weak digital infrastructure. The study recommended the development of the university’s technological infrastructure, the provision of effective e-learning platforms, and the implementation of intensive training programmers to integrate digital skills into teaching and assessment practices
