Abstract

This study aims to highlight the role of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in supporting self-learning of the English language by analyzing the key educational advantages offered by these tools, such as content personalization, instant feedback, performance analysis, and the creation of flexible and advanced learning environments. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach and focuses on a selection of widely used AI-powered applications, including Duolingo, Grammarly, and ChatGPT, as modern tools that enable learners to engage in self-directed and interactive learning experiences. The analysis reveals that AI contributes significantly to accelerating English language acquisition by offering algorithm-driven tools that adapt to users’ needs and provide real-time feedback, thus facilitating the development of language skills in a more flexible and precise manner than traditional methods.

        Despite these benefits, the study identifies several educational and technical challenges, most notably the lack of genuine human interaction, overreliance on algorithms, the digital divide, and limited access to technology in certain environments. It also addresses the inability of AI systems to fully comprehend cultural contexts, which can affect the development of real-life communication skills. Based on this framework, the study seeks to answer the following research questions: How do AI technologies contribute to accelerating the learning of English? What tools do they offer to achieve this? What are the main challenges that may hinder this type of learning? How do these challenges affect learners' communicative and cultural competence? To what extent can AI be considered an effective alternative to traditional methods in language education? And can learners maintain a balance between relying on technology and developing independent critical thinking skills?
